BBC Royal Rota Duty

Updated: Aug 6, 2021

This week I was fortunate enough to be chosen to cover a Royal visit in Oxford.

HRH The Duchess of Cambridge visited Pegasus Primary School on 6th March to learn more about the work undertaken by the organisation known as Family Links.

I was working for BBC South Today that day and was appointed on the Royal rota. For those that are unaware, this means I was the sole Cameraman following her on the trip with other Operators filming out on the street.

Under the agreement, rota footage it then provided unedited to all the major UK broadcasters.

My footage was used on BBC, ITV, Sky & Reuters.

As the venue had varying lighting levels a used by Litepanels Brick toplight which was needed in a few rooms. It's a fantastic light, the best I have used and is completely waterproof, the only downside is it weighs a ton, hence the name.

I have filmed many of the Royals in the last few years but Kate was very charming.

I also got to work alongside Royal Photographer Arthur Edwards who started his career the year I was born!! He was a real gent and we had a good chat.

All in all a very enjoyable day.
